Creating Communities We Want is a youth engagement / leadership development program for secondary and middle schools. Using theatre and art exercises, we help youth develop literacy in issues of violence prevention, respect, equity and inclusion, drug and alcohol awareness, and advocacy. Senior students practice leadership as facilitators, mentors, mediators, public speakers, by engaging younger students in workshops, forums, presentation and events. Trinity customizes our programs to support curriculum and/or co-curricular leadership activities. Our focus is on creating sustainable programs for each school that empower students and support their success by providing opportunities for them to contribute to making a safe and caring school.
Each year, with the support of the Toronto District School Board, Trinity works in over 25 secondary and middle schools training over 400 students to reach 20,000 + of their peers. We develop programs that address issues identification, physical and relational aggression, equity, racism, respect, substance abuse, safer partying, as well as the middle to high school transition experience.
With National Crime Prevention Strategy funding Trinity is adapting the program in five pilot sites across Canada, sharing safe and caring school best practices and continuously developing our resources.
Trinity supports student success by fostering their feelings of competence, belonging, usefulness, potency, and optimism.
